3 Day Art Workshop in Cornwall with Sara Bor

13th -17th April 2015

Enjoy a fantastic luxury stay at Costislost House in North Cornwall whilst learning some new painting skills.   This 3 day art course is set at the beautiful Costislost House near Wadebridge a short drive  from  the stunning North Cornish Coast.

The course is aimed at both beginners and artists who wish to explore new methods of working.  It  is about a response to coast and landscape through colour, marks and textures. The course is location and studio based. You will be drawing directly from the landscape, exploring how to create a unique colour palette;  experimenting with mark making  using a range of different tools to create individual textures and  building up layers of colour, then applying the new skills you have learnt to develop your ideas on canvas with one to one tuition available.

EOS and Workshop Review

Review of my 2 day Colour and Texture in the Landscape Workshop

Alison
Rebecca

Day 1. We were lucky with the weather on the first day of the Colour and Texture  in the Landscape Workshop and the Artists who participated were able to spend the morning drawing in the beautiful mid Devon landscape attempting to capture the breathtaking panoramic views.  In the afternoon I carried out some demonstrations on how to create a unique colour palette  from just a few tubes of paint.  The group explored creating different textures and marks from a variety tools and by the end of the first afternoon
Jane
Jane, Ruth and Frannie
they had 2 canvases covered in a variety marks and a personally created colour range.

Day 2. The day started with time spent reflecting on and developing ideas from the first days drawings and finding links between them and the intuitive marks made on their canvases.
I demonstrated how I build up my paintings in layers with a range of dfferent marks, leaving some areas of bare canvas and exposing previous layers by scraping back paint and scratching through.

The group explored these techniques in their paintings learning  that time spent in thinking and reflecting on the next stage is as important as the painting process.

Here are some of the outcomes.

I will be carrying out a Colour Coast and Texture 2 day Workshop in May which will be one day on location and a day in the Studio.

I will also be repeating the Colour and Texture in the Landscape 2 day Workshop in June. For information about workshops and short courses including residential Courses

Exciting work from Colour and Texture workshop

Sally Baldwin

My Working with oils - Colour and Texture Workshop on Friday 18th October

included a group of both professional and amateur artists who were keen to learn new skills to enhance their own practice.  Several of the students hadn't worked in oils before and  they enjoyed the experience of exploring the qualities of the medium and investigating different techniques of applying the paint to the canvas and creating a varied range of marks.

Hilary Barclay

After experimenting with colour mixing exercises in the morning, the students choose a limited colour palette for each of the 2 paintings they worked on. The paintings drew reference from drawings of the landscape produced during the day and also from their own drawings and photographs.

Sarah Acock

The objective was for students to have a new approach to painting by exploring how to mix a unique range of colours and building up layers of paint using a variety of tools with which to make different marks, including palette knives, rollers, rags, sticks, hands as well as a range of different types of brushes.

Gill Mitchell

The results at the end of this very full on day were stunning and individual with each students pushing the boundaries of their comfort zones to create new and exciting work.

I will be repeating this workshop early in the new year. for more information
