Day 1. We were lucky with the weather on the first day of the Colour and Texture in the Landscape Workshop and the Artists who participated were able to spend the morning drawing in the beautiful mid Devon landscape attempting to capture the breathtaking panoramic views. In the afternoon I carried out some demonstrations on how to create a unique colour palette from just a few tubes of paint. The group explored creating different textures and marks from a variety tools and by the end of the first afternoon

Day 2. The day started with time spent reflecting on and developing ideas from the first days drawings and finding links between them and the intuitive marks made on their canvases.
I demonstrated how I build up my paintings in layers with a range of dfferent marks, leaving some areas of bare canvas and exposing previous layers by scraping back paint and scratching through.

The group explored these techniques in their paintings learning that time spent in thinking and reflecting on the next stage is as important as the painting process.
